WARSA - Waste As Resource By Changing Stakeholders' Approach
India is the fastest-growing trillion-dollar economy and the fifth largest overall, with a nominal GDP of $2.94 trillion(1). The COVID-19 has affected the dream of a $5 trillion economy target in multiple aspects. There is a need to think about boosting the economy based on reverse logistics to strengthen the GDP. Adapting the Circular Economy in the solid waste management sector is one way to ease job creation and create a supporting system that depends on waste as a resource.
In the recent “What a Waste 2.0″report published by The World Bank, it mentions that India produces around 277 million tons of municipal solid waste every year, which is over 80% of the 334 million tons of waste generated across South Asia (Excluding China) and about 13% of the global waste generated every year. The leading waste generating state is Maharashtra(2).
